Titanic Effort From Year 6 McA

10th May 2020

As part of their WAU Year 6 are learning about the Titanic. This is such an enjoyable topic. They have been given a number of tasks ( see below) and it is recommend that they select and complete one task each fortnight. These tasks include:

  • Use the internet to create a timeline from the creation to the sinking of the Titanic.
  • Research how the disaster on the Titanic was reported and why some of the early information was proved wrong, i.e. poorer communication, time differences, a sense of shame, bias. Discuss how news was recorded and reported in 1912. Discuss who might have been affected by the wrong information and how they might have felt.
  • Research and create a fact file of a famous passenger i.e. Molly Brown, Captain Smith, Bruce Ismay, Thomas Andrews or Fredrick Fleet and present as a fact file.
  • Summarise information under three headings: First Class, Second Class and Third Class. Record key information on facilities available.
  • Create a newspaper front cover reporting on the sinking of the Titanic the day after the event. Consider factual and false information that was reported at the time. Many examples of newspapers online.
  • (Writing) Describe the splendour, that was, the Titanic. Include descriptive detail on both the exterior and interior of the ship. what can be seen, heard, what was the atmosphere like, Specific sights/objects.

Have a look at the work Mr Mc Auley's class have sent in so far. Lovely to see the handsome, Luke! Luke made a wonderful video on Bruce Ismay. There are some technical problems at the minute but it is so wonderful. We hope to have it uploaded very soon.

Well done to all.

We are so proud our pupils and their parents.

Keep up the hard work.
