St. Bride's Girls Gaelic Team

21st Oct 2015

In an action packed replay of our league games, St. Bride’s Girls Gaelic team played the Gaelscoil na bhFál and Holy Child. The first game was against the Gaelscoil and promised to be a tight match after our previous encounter. Massive performances from our full back line, Caitlin Courtney and Niamh Turkington, meant the Gaelscoil found it difficult to score whilst up front we narrowly missed out on several opportunities. Great supportive play in the middle from Aileen McDonnell, Laura Agnew and Caoimhe Mc Donnell kept us in the game. A goal from Cara Bradley settled the game and with Rachael McAreavey supporting up front, St. Bride’s were able to win the game 2-02 to 0-02.

Holy Child were to prove tougher opposition and after a promising start, including a well taken, distance goal from Laura Agnew, we were ahead by 2-00 to 0- 00. A penalty for Holy Child went over the bar however Holy Child were to force their way back into the game chipping away at the scoreline. By half time there were 3 points in the game and Holy Child were to add another 3 in the second half to make it level with one minute to go. More pressure from Holy Child provided them with one last opportunity which went outside the posts and with supportive play coming from Orla McKernan, we were to make the most of the opportunity, getting the ball to our forward line and hand passed over the bar for the final winning point.

In the end, it was a narrow one point win to St. Bride’s and a great afternoon’s football.
