P6 McAuley Titanic Research

12th Apr 2017

Mr McAuley’s class recently began their new World Around Us topic of the ‘The Titanic’. We knew a lot about the Titanic but not a lot about its sinking. We watched a clip of the Titanic sinking, taking notes, discussing the animated footage and coming up with our own questions based solely on the footage. We are learning to be critical of evidence which will enable us to gain a better understanding of ‘the whole picture’. We came up with questions such as:

  • Why was there an implosion in the stern of the ship as it sank?
  • How fast was the Titanic moving when it struck the iceberg?
  • How deep was ocean floor where the Titanic finally rested?
  • How far was the stern from the bow of the ship when they reached the ocean floor?

We then researched these questions and many others in our groups using laptops.
