We have started group reading in class. You will soon be getting these books home to read (6th November). During group reading we sit in a circle on the carpet. We get a little time at the beginning to read through the book, looking at the pictures etc. on our own. Then Mrs Merron will tell us to close our books and we will read the book together taking turns. First we look to see if we can find the front cover, the back cover, the blurb and the title. We take turns to tell the group what is happening in each picture, using full sentences. Mrs Merron sometimes asks us questions to get more information (e.g. How do you think Kipper is feeling? Why are they doing that? What does Dad think?).
At the moment we are reading books with pictures only, Mrs Merron has read these stories using lots of sentences it's now our turn to retell it. During group reading Mrs Merron checks to see if we can hold the book properly and turn the pages to follow the story. We have even started to read the title using our pointing fingers.
