St. Brigid's Third World Group Join Miss Montague's Assembly

3rd Dec 2015
St. Brigid's Third World Group Join Miss Montague's Assembly

Today we welcomed some very interesting visitors to our Year 4/ 5 assembly.

They were Mrs Rosalie Flanagan, Mr Daniel Roberts and Reverend Jim Campbell from St. Brigid’s Parish Third World Group.

Mr Roberts showed us a PowerPoint on the work of the Third World Group. First of all he asked a very challenging question-“Where is the third world?”

He told us that St. Brigid’s Third World Group raises money to build wells, to buy books and medicines and to buy school dinners for pupils in countries like Malawi. He showed us a photograph of pupils eating their lunch and told us that one of the reasons the children will go to school is because they get a lunch. They get a lunch and an education!  One of the ways St. Brigid’s Third World raises money is by having a soup luncheon in St. Bride’s Parish Hall. He told us that everyone is welcome to attend these lunches.

Reverend Jim Campbell told the pupils how the money raised by St. Bride’s Primary school and St. Brigid’s Third World Group will be used to build more wells in Malawi. Each well he explained costs £500 to build. He showed us a video clip of the wells being built and he gave the school some photographs which we have published for you to see.

At the end of the presentation, Mrs Quinn and Mrs Flanagan presented Rev Jim Campbell with a cheque for £6000 from the Third World Group. One very bright child told Mrs Quinn that there was enough money now to build 12 more wells!

We would like to thank the Third World Group for visiting our school and we hope they enjoyed Miss Montague’s Assembly on Advent which was a real treat for all our pupils.
