Raffo Cup 2019 - Not Our Day !

9th Apr 2019

The staff and pupils are so proud of our Raffo Cup Team who were unfortunately beaten today in the final. It is a hard lesson to learn at 10/ 11 years of age. The boys played well and were great ambassadors for St. Bride's PS and St. Brigid's Club. We have no doubt that these group of boys will do well in the future.

We would like to thank Mr Marty Cunningham ( outstanding coach & teacher ), Mr Frank Mc Gurk and our past pupils Finn Mc Kernan and Patrick Finnegan who train the boys week in week out.

It is wonderful to see past pupils coming back to St. Bride's to help at training and to give something back to the school. Finn was recalling how he himself was beaten in a Raffo Cup Final in Casement! He has not forgotten that feeling. Finn was supported today by his mum, granny and grandfather. It was a family affair.

Frank is our most stalwart supporter. We cannot thank him enough for all he does for the school. He is the most wonderful Club School Liason Officer. We thank all the other St. Brigid's coaches who train the boys at club level.  We appreciate the wonderful links the club has developed with the school. Long may these continue.

Thank you to the many supporters who turned out today. It was great to see so many parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and future Raffo Cup players.

We would like to thank Cumann na mBunscol for hosting the tournament. The venue was superb. Thank you to them for their hard work through out the year especially to Aiden Mc Crory, Jim and Paul Sloan who were as always on the sidelines today. Thank you for your time, enthusiasm and commitment. We do not take it for granted.

Thank you and congratulations to Holy Child for a great match. Enjoy your win!

Finally , thank you to the team and the subs - our wonderful St. Bride's pupils. You played your hearts out right up to the final whistle. You have inspired the younger members of our school community. They aspire to be like you - they now hope to make it to a Raffo Cup final.

Be proud of what you have achieved.

Walk tall.

Your day will come !

Up St. Bride's !
