Primary One Mrs McNamee March Playtime

18th Apr 2018

During the month of March our play was based on

  • Trocaire, and the information we learned about Fatu and Kumba losing their home and school because of a landslide in their country.
  • We used paint and chalk to create pictures of their new home and built their new school using junk materials during Structured Play. In our Drama Area we made a temporary house and pretended to cook our food over an open fire. We even used our wooden shapes and nails to make shape pictures of the sisters playing together. On one of our Tuff Spots we explored the textures of uncooked rice that Kumba and Fatu would eat in Sierra Leone. We had the world map and puppets from around the world out during playtime so we could discuss lots of places we had travelled to.
  • Spring was another area we were introduced to and we used sand boards to write some spring words.
  • We also recreated St Patrick being captured using our pirate ship and various characters.
  • In the subject of Maths, we were using clothes pegs to find missing numbers and now that we can tell the ‘o’clock’ time we were able to make our clock jigsaw.
  • And of course we were exploring sounds and letters every day using a fishing game, the computer, jigsaws and some new wooden disks!
