We discussed how abstract art focuses mainly on lines, shapes, and colours and didn’t show a “picture” of anything (a person, a dog, a tree etc.) We looked at artwork by various abstract painters such as Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Joan Miro, Jackson Pollock. We then drew different shapes and lines using wax resistant oil pastels before painting over their drawings using watercolours. The children then wrote about themselves before cutting and sticking them onto their abstract paintings.
