P1 Wynne visit Streamvale Farm

20th Jun 2019

Today, all the Primary 1 children visited Streamvale Farm. What a fabulous day! We met Rebecca who was our guide for the day - she was brilliant!

First we went to see the newly hatched chicks. We learned about how they get out of the egg & how long they have to wait before their feathers start to grow. We got the gently stroke the top of its head; it was so soft!

Then we went to meet Buttercup the cow. She was a Friesian cow, which means she is a dairy cow and she gets milked everyday. She wasn't a real cow, so we practiced milking her like they did year ago before they had milking parlours.

Next we went to the milking parlour and saw where the cows get milked twice every day. We saw where they get their treats while the farmer milks them and we saw the pipes that the milk goes through into the big tank. We were very clever and told Rebecca all the things we know that are made from milk.

We then visited Pets corner and saw so many different animals. We saw Shetland ponies, alpacas, bunny rabbits, goats, guinea pigs, lambs and pigs. We even got the help feed on of the goats called Archie - he was very hungry! We got to pet a little bunny rabbit and even a puppy. We were really gentle so we didn't scare them.

Next we went to feed the chickens and have a look at lots of different animals in the paddock. We even saw a peacock who was showing off his beautiful and colourful feathers to us! We fed the ducks and went on a nature trail. Some of us even found some fairy houses along the way.

Finally after all the exploring and learning, we got some lunch. We had our lunch outside like a picnic and thankfully the rain stayed off for us! Then just before home time we got to play in the Cannon Area which was great fun.

On the bus home we were very tired! What an exciting day! Well done everyone!!
