P1 Wynne Syllables

9th Nov 2017

We have been working lots on our syllables in Primary 1. We use our syllable hands to tap out how many syllables are in a word. For each syllable we touch a part of our body. We start with our head, shoulders, hips, knees and even feet sometimes!! Elephant – el-e-phant, we touch our head, shoulders and hips; three syllables. We have been doing lots in class and we love finding how many syllables are in our names and our favourite toys.

This week, during tasks, we were using pictures and tapping out how many syllables were in each word. For tooth-brush, we tapped out two circles on our page and coloured them in, and for tomato, we tapped out, to-ma-to.

At home, I wonder if you could use different objects in your house to count the syllables. How many can you find?
