P1 Merron - December playtime

19th Dec 2019

December has been a busy month! We have been busy playing inside and outside. We have been decorating the tree, writing Christmas lists to Santa and posting them. We have been wrapping presents and making Christmas cookies.

In numeracy we have been learning about 3D shapes and recognising them using the language of faces/sides e.g. A cube has square faces. We have been continuing to learn our numbers and we have counted up to 8 sets. We have been learning how to touch count to see how many we have. We have been introduced to the idea of addition using cubes and using the language of how many altogether and equals. We have been measuring using the scales too working out which is lighter or heavier or even if it is balanced. We have been introduced to money counting out 1 penny coins (our touch counting is very important here).

In literacy we have been continuing to learn our letters knowing the letter name, sound, formation and an object beginning with that sound. We have been writing CVC (constant, vowel, constant) words e.g. cat, mat, fit, nap, mop using our sounds making sure to stretch and squeeze the words. We have been counting syllables in words and Mrs Merron is very impressed with our syllable work. We have been reading books with words and we are using picture cues and very importantly using our pointing finger when reading. We really enjoy reading time and discussing the story and answering questions. We have been learning words from our green word book and we have been playing bingo in school, we are starting to recognise and read these words. Well done!

As you can read we have been busy bee's in Primary 1 and really deserve the Christmas holidays and a break. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!
