School Council Meeting Minutes

19/1119

Our first meeting of the year 19/2020, welcome to the new councillors. The meeting was chaired by Mr McCloskey and attended by last year’s members as well as the newly elected ones.

  • Mr Mc Closkey thanked the old council for their hard work and commitment.
  • We had our photos taken and they will be displayed on the website and the Ashleigh and Derryvolgie notice boards.
  • Each councillor should ensure a suggestion box is in place in every room
  • We should wear our badges at all times to keep our profile up.
  • Any suggestions that are made in class should be brought to meetings and discussed.
  • After each meeting the minutes will be displayed on the notice boards and website. We will also report back to our classes and discuss council business at assemblies (after feedback from SMT).
  • Suggestions:
  • Mindfulness, timeout, relaxation area. Council wanted to follow up on this suggestion and see if the area outside the hall was still part of SMT plans? It could be de weeded, power hosed and new benches put in with evergreen plants etc. put there. It would be a calm space that could also be used for art, silent reading on good summer days.
  • It was suggested that the music mobile could do with some TLC and a lock on the toilet door?
  • If we made the school toilet areas more user friendly maybe they would be treated with more respect. It would be good to have more soap

  • (sensitive soap for people with allergies) dispensers and have them filled more regularly. Some nice air refreshers and scented sprays would help.
  • We would like to improve the selection of books in the library. A suggestion book for pupils to add in a title or author for consideration.
  • Any possibility of a book club after school? They could meet in the library and discuss novels.
  • Have yr. 7’s edit their own magazine after transfer tests as an ongoing ICT/ Literacy project for the rest of the year? They could interview ex pupils and publish it on website each month.
