School Council Minutes May 2023

23rd May 2023

School Council Minutes

16/05/23

Agenda.

· Visits: the council had two very successful, interesting, educational and informative visits to Belfast City Hall and Stormont Buildings.

· Council will write to Cllr. Gary Mc Keown to thank him for his kind invitation to study the history and workings of Belfast City Council. We will also congratulate him on being re-elected for another term.

· Council will write to Kate Nicholl MLA to thank her for her kind invitation to tour the Stormont Assembly and have a mini debate about the pros and cons of school uniform.

· Both politicians answered some very probing questions from the children cheerfully and honestly which was very refreshing.

· The School Council’s attention has been drawn to the parking situation in front of the school in the mornings and afternoons. They are concerned about everyone’s safety adults and children alike. They have noticed that people have a complete disregard for the no parking zones and despite the double yellow lines and signs cars are continually parked in these areas. In the interests of safety and as a courtesy to other users of the road the council has decided to write to local politicians who represent this area and the traffic branch of PSNI to see what can be done to alleviate this situation.

· Council is also considering designing their own notices to pass onto people who park here during those times to ask them to kindly desist and respect the concerns of the children in the school.

· We will keep the pupils up to date about anything we hear back.

If anyone has any solutions, please pass them onto your class councillor. Remember we are your voice, and we deserve to be heard!!
