P6 Mc Auley and Mc Mahon Viking Workshop

8th Nov 2019

On Friday the 22nd October, P6 Mc Mahon’s class and Mr Mc Auley’s went to the Viking workshop over in the parish hall. As it was the last day before Halloween, we were all in our Halloween costumes so that was fun too.

First we were split into 3 groups. The groups all went to different activities.

Activity one was trying on costumes and seeing what the Vikings wore when they were alive. Activity two was making sparks with flint and steel. Activity three was weaving /making bracelets with wool and we each got to take home one. Activity four was house weaving with sticks. Activity five was an old Viking game called ‘Tic Tac Toe’. Activity six was decoding Viking runs. Activity seven was the chain male relay which we had pass a real chain male to each other. Activity eight was an artefact quiz where we got a picture of an object that was zoomed in on the object and then you had to find that item on the table and figure out what it was used for during the time of the Vikings.

After we did all the activities, we made spears out of paper, card and tape. We decorated them with red paint to pretend there was blood on it. The last thing was sword fighting and we all took part in fighting. There were 6 positions of the fight including positions 1-5 and on-guard, advance and retreat. We had a competition and the winner was to become our class chief. Oratile become our Chief!

We really enjoyed this workshop and learnt A LOT about the Vikings whilst having fun.
