Lights, Camera and Action by Aoife Maguire

As part of Blue Peter’s recycling week, my little sister and I made bird feeders from recycled materials. My dad took a video of us and sent it into Blue Peter. We made it onto the show and even got a green Blue Peter badge.

Last week, on Saturday 12th September, me and my sister came home from the shops to a lovely surprise. My mum was in the kitchen cooking dinner when we came in the door. As we went to say hello to her and ask how work was today, she told us that 2 letters had come in through the post for us. Both the letters were sitting on the table and my mum told us to open them. We had no idea what was in the envelope, but when I opened mine, a green Blue Peter badge fell onto the table. I was so happy and so was Clodagh because not only did we get the badge, we also got a letter from the producer of Blue Peter!

Later that week, on Monday, when my dad got home from work, he rushed inside and said, ”How can you just sit there watching TV, when such exciting things are happening? ” Clodagh and I rushed into the kitchen with our dad in front of us. “I got an email from Blue Peter!“ he shouted. He read it out to us and it sounded something like this;

Dear Mr Ciaran Maguire,

We loved the video you sent in of your daughters and their bird feeders so much that we would like to feature them on our green badge special. Now, do remember that there are lots of other children to pick from so there is a small chance that you will be picked to be featured on our show. From the producer, Lizzy.

Obviously my whole family watched the episode on Thursday when it was live. We were watching for about a minute when the hosts said that they were going to show some of the clips that had been sent in. We were so excited and surprised when our clip was featured. I am still so pleased with myself and Clodagh and we wear our badges every day!
