P7 Montague Ulster Aviation Society Visit

6th Apr 2017

By Ella H & Ali

On Thursday the 6th of April P7 Montague went to the Aviation Society. First we were picked up by a bus. When we arrived there, we saw two buildings one was the hanger and the other was surrounded with a big wall and wire at the top. Miss Montague told us it was an old prison. Then we went in to the hanger and it was filled with planes. Volunteers who work on the planes showed us around. They told us about the plane’s history, like the ‘Mayfly’ which was named so because it may fly but they weren’t sure. We went into some of the planes and sat in the cock pit where the pilot would have sat. The planes kept getting more modern. Some of the planes cost nearly £90,000. We got to sit in the Short’s 330 which was one of the first passenger planes. In the other part of the hanger there were helicopters which we got to go inside. The last thing we were told about was the ejector seats which were built to stop people from dying if the plane is about to crash. They were quite comfortable to sit in! It was a very interesting day and it was great fun to get to sit in all the different planes.
