Beat the Street!

16th Sep 2016

Are you ready to Beat the Street?

Beat the Street is a fun free real-life walking, jogging, cycling and scooting challenge delivered on behalf of the National Charity Partnership – a partnership between Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation and Tesco. This project has been delivered with the full support from Belfast City Council,Active Belfast Partnership and other local councils.

Beat the Street is designed to inspire people to make small changes, such as walking or cycling to school every day to improve their health.  As well as major health benefits, participating in activity such as Beat the Street each day has been shown to dramatically improve concentration levels of children in class.  Further benefits to the school can be seen with reduced traffic congestion at the start and end of the day.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

There are more than 370 beat boxes located across Belfast, Newtownabbey,Holywood, Lisburn and Dunmurry.  To score points you must tap at least 2 boxes but the more you tap the more points you can score.

Helena from Beat the Street came in to assembley this morning and explained to Years 4,5,6 & 7 the process.  It all starts on Wednesday 14th September until 2nd November.  The pupils will be given a green fob, they are already registered online for St.Bride’s.  A family pack is going home but parents need to register online and join the St. Bride’s team.

We are looking forward to you taking part as all family points will add to our team’s total.  You will be helping more people take part and have fun. So let’s get ready to Beat the Street!
