Year 7 McGivern Cultural Lunch

16th May 2016

Cultural lunch day started when a girl from our class brought in a dish from the country where she was born, Malaysia. Some of us at her table thought the dish was strange because it was unusual compared to what we regularly bring in as lunch. Then Miss Gráinne came up with the idea of ‘Cultural Lunch Day’ so that the pupils would understand and respect the rich cultural diversity in St Bride’s PS.

The idea was planted and so we, Miss McGivern’s class, planned and organised the event.

We had maple syrup from Canada, chicken fried noodles from China, Kashke bademjan from Persia, Harissah, a Middle Eastern Coconut cake (delish) along with sushi, pomegranate, guacamole, American hotdogs (with ketchup and mustard), and Manchego cheese and Parma ham from Spain, to name but a few.

It was a feast fit for a king which we thoroughly enjoyed. We live in hope that this first, successful Cultural Lunch will be celebrated every term in our school.
